Former Red Cross volunteer allegedly rapes 13-year-old student

Authorities arrested a former Philippine Red Cross volunteer after he allegedly raped a 13-year-old student.

The suspect, Jomar Torres, was on his way to the court hearing at Manila City Hall when police served an arrest warrant against him. Torres hid from the police for three years

Torres was the victim’s first trainer. The victim’s parents said their daughter started to show odd behaviors and actions before she told them that the suspect raped her. They said the teen would lose her temper quickly, stare blankly, daze, struggle to sleep, and cry frequently.

“Pinakain daw siya ng pampatulog. Dinala siya sa motel sa Recto. Nagising na lang daw siya, nakahubad na siya, masakit ang katawan niya,” said the victim’s father.

(She said she was fed with a sleeping pill. She was taken to the Recto motel. She just woke up; she was already naked; her body was in pain.)

“Ang hangarin lang ng anak namin, makatulong po sa kapwa. Hindi naman ini-expect na may taong ganyan na gagawan siya ng masama,” the minor’s mother added.

(All our daughter wanted was to help others. We did not expect that such a person will do her harm.)

The suspect allegedly raped the 13-year-old again after he threatened to kill her family and burn their house.

The suspect refused to give a statement on the rape charges and child abuse against him.

The Philippine Red Cross has not yet released a statement, but according to its member, the former volunteer was no longer connected to the organization since 2016.
