CHR probes Ebeng Mayor rape-slay case

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) launched an investigation on the Ebeng Mayor rape-slay case.

“Such atrocious act epitomizes the reality of members of the LGBTQIA+ community who face higher rates of hate-motivated violence, which can often take the form of sexual violence,” CHR spokesperson Jacqueline de Guia said.

Guia added act of violence further underlines the urgent need to strengthen protections against gender non-conforming persons, address issues of access to justice and strengthen the campaign against hate, stigma and discrimination.

“The Commission has been relentless in pushing for the enactment of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression Equality Bill to provide legal mechanisms to hold to account perpetrators of gender-based discrimination,” De Guia said.

The 21-year-old transgender man Ebeng Mayor was found  in Quezon City and is suspected of being raped.

’s body was found in Bagong Silang on Thursday, a few days after he said left home.

According to Ebeng’s sister Rachelle Tria, the victim said told them on Monday that he would drink with friends because he had a problem with his live-in partner in .

“Broken po siya. Kumbaga parang nag-away sila ng asawa niya tapos umuwi siya dito. Taga-Pampanga ‘yung asawa niya. Umuwi siya dito. Pero hindi alam ng asawa niya na umalis po siya noong gabi. Tumakas daw po. Tapos umuwi sa amin,” she said.

According to Transman and Equality Movement-Philippines, a wooden stick was found shoved into the victim’s genitalia.

Meanwhile, authorities on Saturday arrested three suspects in the alleged murder and rape of a 21-year-old transgender man

The two suspects were arrested after Zander dela Cruz was taken into custody after admitting that he and two others raped and killed his childhood friend Ebeng Mayor.

Dela Cruz named the other suspects Richard Elvin Araza and Joel Loyola, residents of Barangay Payatas, who were arrested in a follow-up operation.

Dela Cruz told investigators he hit Tria on the head with a stone, knocking Ebeng Mayor unconscious. They then took turns raping him, he confessed.

The police report said the suspects took Tria’s cell phone, wristwatch, and gold necklace before dumping his body in Bagong Silangan.
