Abducted couple rescued from Abu Sayyaf transferred to British embassy

The British man and Pinay couple, who have been abducted for almost two months by the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu, have been transferred to the British embassy in the Philippines, Monday night.

The military flight aboard British businessman Allan Hyron and his wife, Pinay Wilma, arrived at Villamor Air Base in Taguig at 9:30 pm.

According to Western Mindanao Command commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, who turned over the couple, British Ambassador to the Philippines, Daniel Pruce met them at the Villamor’s base operations center.

The military rescued the British national and his Pinay wife, who was abducted at a resort in Zamboanga del Sur, Monday, November 25.

Westmincom Commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana confirmed the military troops had rescued couple Allan, and Wilma Hyrons at 9:00 am on Monday, Nov. 25, in Brgy. Taha sa Parang, Sulu.


The successful rescue operations occurred following three successive clashes between Abu Sayyaf members and the military.

Six members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) have been killed following military raids on different areas in Sulu this weekend.

In a statement from Western Mindanao Command on Sunday, two separate encounters erupted in Patikul and Indanan.


Abu Sayyaf abducted couple in Zamboanga del Sur

Armed men kidnapped a British man and his Filipino wife in Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur on Friday night, October 4.

Tukuran Vice Mayor Delfina Cortina confirmed the incident that happened past 6 p.m. after the couple arrived at the resort they owned at Barangay Alindahaw in Tukuran.

Tukuran police identified the victims as Allan Arthur Hyrons, 70, and his wife, Welma Paglinawan Hyrons, who is a businesswoman.

A witness, a resort staff, testified four (4) armed men abducted the couple to pump boats and then escaped to different directions. One is going to Pagadian, and the other is going to Lanao del Norte.

According to Police Chief Master Sergeant Oliver Cimafrancalice, two of the abductors even checked-in to the resort the day before the kidnapping.

Zamboanga del Sur provincial government increased the reward money from P1M to P2-million for anyone who could give information on the kidnappers of British national and his Filipino wife.
