ISIS liaison dead in Sulu encounter

ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) liaison was killed after government troops, and the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) collided in Sulu on Friday morning.

In a released statement, the Joint Task Force Sulu of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said the encounter occurred between the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion and a terrorist group in Barangay Tanim in Patikul.

The deceased ISIS liaison in Sulu was identified as Talha Jumsah or alias “Abu Talha.”

According to AFP, Abu Talha is considered a high-value target.

The military further said that Abu Talha was also an expert in creating improvised explosive devices and also served as an instructor in the ASG.

The 1101st Infantry Brigade recovered Abu Talha’s body on Saturday morning.

According to 1101st Brigade Commander Brid. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, the ASG’s morale has certainly dropped following Abu Talha’s death.

He said the operation would not have been possible without the help of the Tausug community, who reported to the military about the presence of the armed group.

36 MRT-3 escalators now operational; 33 new aircon units being installed

36 of the 46 Metro Rail Transit Line 3 escalators are now fully-operational while 33 new aircon units are being also installed in MRT-3, Friday.

According to the DOTr MRT-3, it was completed after Sumitomo Corp., Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI), and TES Philippines, Inc. (TESP) repaired several escalator units at two train stations.

The escalator units to at parts of Cubao Station (Southbound) and Boni Station (Southbound) were repaired on November 7 and 15.

Meanwhile, the MRT-3 administration said all their elevators were operational.

The maintenance provider targets all MRT-3 escalator and elevator units to be fully operational by 2019.

36 MRT-3 escalators now operational; 33 new aircon units being installed

Installation of 36 additional new air-conditioning units (ACUs) on MRT-3 has begun today.

According to DOTr-MRT 3, 120 new ACUs worth P167-M were purchased by Sumitomo-MHI-TESP as part of MRT-3 rehabilitation.

The first set of 33 ACUs purchased by Sumitomo was installed last August.

Another 60 units were installed last year.

Abusive father shot, killed by his 8-year-old son in Negros Occidental

An alleged abusive father was killed after his 8-year-old son shot him dead in his home in Sitio Manluy-a, Barangay San Jose, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental Wednesday night, November 20.

Jessy Obas, 39, was found dead after suffering three gunshot wounds to the chest.

Before the incident, the intoxicated father allegedly assaulted the child.

According to Lt. Col. Necerato Sabando, an officer-in-charge at the Sipalay City Police Station, the boy took his father’s .38 caliber pistol and fired three times.

The child is now in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Sipalay City.

Police investigation revealed that the father would physically abuse his three children every time he gets drunk.

Obas also allegedly taught his children how to use the gun.

The 8-year-old suspect was the youngest of three siblings.

Their mother works in Metro Manila.
