After confirming the passing of veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez on Sunday, December 17, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) released a statement stating that they are “conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of the death of Mr. James Gibbs aka Ronaldo Valdez.”
In a report on “24 Oras,” Major Don Don Llapitan, chief of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, stated that actor Ronaldo Valdez was found in his room around three o’clock in the afternoon with a gunshot wound. A gun was also discovered at the scene.
“Si Sir Ronaldo Valdez ay nakaupo po sa kanyang upuan, wala na pong malay. May tama sa right temple at ‘yung baril na ginamit nga ay nasa kamay pa rin ‘yung baril po,” said Major Llapitan.
Valdez was hurried to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The QCPD mentioned their probe remains active. Since a firearm was discovered in the vicinity, each person in Valdez’s residence underwent a paraffin exam, a common practice for potential criminal events, not implying their participation.

The QCPD has announced that their probe is ongoing. They are currently awaiting the outcomes of the gunshot residue and firearms tests. Valdez began his ascent to stardom in the entertainment industry in 1966, securing iconic parts in both films and TV.

His ability to switch effortlessly between roles, whether he was making audiences laugh or capturing the seriousness of a paternal or confrontational character, was clear. On Instagram, singer and actor Janno Gibbs announced the death of his father.
“It is with great sorrow that I confirm my father’s passing,” he said.
Janno said their family is requesting “that you respect our privacy in our grieving moment.”
“Your prayers and condolences are much appreciated,” Janno ended his short post.
