Commissioner Rubio is very grateful for such honor received.

“We will continue to strengthen our efforts in combating counterfeiting and ensuring the enforcement of intellectual property rights,” he said.

“We are thankful to Nike for the recognition, but our job is far from done. While this award gives credit to the hardworking men and women of the bureau, it ignites us further to go after these manufacturers of counterfeit goods,” said Uy.

Through the joint operations, up to 2.2 million pairs of counterfeit footwear, featuring Nike’s iconic “Swoosh” logo, were confiscated.

The estimated market value of such illicit products will reach P1.562 billion.

Nike Asia Pacific also extends its deep gratitude and appreciation for BOC’s tireless efforts to prevent the circulation of counterfeit products.

For Enciso, such commendation should serve as a rallying call for all government agencies to work together.

He also assured that the BOC remains committed to ensuring border security and intellectual property protection.

Leyte mayor, wife to face environmental pollution charges

Leyte Rep Richard Gomez urged the House Committee on Natural Resources to hold Palompon Mayor Ramon Oñate and his wife accountable for the alleged massive pollution in their province.

This is after the committee’s hearing based on the filed House Resolution No. 778 by Gomez related to the alleged violation of land use and environmental management laws in Palompon and Albuera in Leyte.

“I recommend that with these offenses, the Committee would come up with a report and a conclusion that we will file this to the Ombudsman,” said Gomez.

This is related to the operation of DBSN Farms Agriventures Corporation, which is pointed out as the cause of widespread pollution in the municipalities of Palompon and Albuera.

Oñate is the president and chief executive officer of DBSN, which has a 55,000-capacity chicken dressing plant in Albuera and a breeder farm in Palompon with a capacity of 88,000 chicken heads.
