3 PNP colonels sacked for playing golf while on-duty

Three PNP colonels were sacked after they were repeatedly caught playing golf while on-duty.

The officers were identified as Police Col. Dennis Artil, Police Lt. Col. Richard Badang, and Police Lt. Col. Glenn Mayam, who were assigned to Central Visayas as regional comptroller, members of finance service, and chief of Drug Enforcement Group.

Authorities sacked the three PNP colonels for playing golf during working hours.

Playing golf police have been banned from Monday to Friday at all times, according to Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa.

The police officials were transferred to Camp Crame and will face administrative cases.

Gamboa said on Monday that his priorities as the new PNP chief are the war on drugs and internal cleansing of the law enforcement agency.

President Rodrigo Duterte recently administered Gamboa’s oath and promoted him to a 4-star officer before the evacuees in Sto. Tomas City, Batangas.

“As a lawyer, I want every member of the PNP to be most respectful of the rule of law and everything it stands for. There shall be no individual or unit action outside of the justice system under any circumstances. Everything shall be above board and compliant of the requirements of due process, human rights, transparency, and public accountability,” Gamboa said in a speech.

Gamboa, PNP’s Deputy Chief for Administration, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Sinagtala Class of 1986 and was a classmate of former chiefs Albayalde and now Senator Ronald Dela Rosa.

The new PNP chief is set to retire in September 2020.
