P1.1M worth of marijuana from California seized at Port of Clark

Bureau of Customs (BOC) authorities at the Port of Clark seized P1.1 million worth of marijuana from a misdeclared shipment from California.

BOC said in a statement that its operatives intercepted 966 grams of marijuana from a shipment declares as “art-work fine” from California, the USA, which arrived on June 9, 2020.

The shipment passed through documents strict profiling and x-ray examination.

When the authorities conducted a physical examination on the subject shipment, they discovered two vacuum-sealed clear plastic packs of suspected fine kush weeds, BOC said.

K9 sniffing also confirmed the presence of the illegal drugs inside the shipment.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) then conducted a chemical analysis that confirmed the findings of BOC-Clark personnel.

The seized marijuana was turned over to the PDEA Region III on June 18, 2020.

The BOC also turned over two other shipments containing separately one bottle of CBD Oil and six tobacco rolling papers, which likewise positive for marijuana.

“Warrants of Seizure and Detention (WSD) were issued by District Collector Ruby Alameda against the subject shipments for violation of Sections 118 (g), 119 (d) & 1113 (f), (i) & (l) of R.A. No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) in relation to Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002,” the BOC said.

Last week, authorities arrested a Canadian tourist after he was caught selling a sachet of marijuana to an undercover government agent in Alicia, Isabela, during a drug buy-bust operation.

Police identified the suspect as Norman Thompson, 30, temporarily residing at Barangay Antonino in Alicia. He sold a sachet of dried fruiting tops of marijuana to a poseur buyer at around 2:30 pm on Saturday.

Police Brig. Gen. Angelito Casimiro, Cagayan Valley police director, said the transaction occurred in Purok Rose, Barangay Calaocan, in Alicia town.

Authorities recovered sa sachet of marijuana, a P1,000 bill used as buy-bust money, the cellular phone he used in contacting the undercover agent, and a black Honda XRM motorcycle from the Canadian national.

Thompson was now under the custody of the Alicia police station for booking and detention to face illegal drug charges.
