PDEG chief Gen. Domingo denies cover-up in P6.7-B seized shabu

Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) director Police Brigadier General Narciso Domingo, said that he and nine other police officers are ready to file a leave of absence to allow the investigation into the P6.7-billion worth of shabu. Still, the officer is upset because of the allegation that there is a cover-up regarding the matter involving one of their personnel.

“We will comply with the order of Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government Benhur Abalos. We will file our leave of absence right after this press conference,” said Domingo this Tuesday.

He denied that there was a cover-up in the case after Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo Jr., who has been removed from service, was involved in what was said to be more than 990 kilos of shabu.

“We assure you that there was no attempted cover-up here, if that’s what most people think that we, the PDEG, covered up the wrongdoing of our people,” Domingo insisted.

This Monday, Abalos appealed to two police generals and several other police officers to take leave to allow for the investigation into the alleged cover-up of the drug bust and the arrest of Mayo. If the officers do not submit a leave of absence, they will be suspended.

But Domingo insisted that they were only doing their job to fight against illegal drugs. The official said that the seized drugs from Mayo, who, based on the police record, is an intelligence officer of the PDEG, is considered the PNP’s biggest drug haul.

“Let me express my dismay that this is being unfair on the part of those of us who just did our mandate and just did our fight against illegal drugs trade,” the PDEG official said.

This Monday, Abalos also showed the media CCTV footage of when Mayo was caught but was later released.

The video also showed the arrival and departure of some senior PNP officials from the building where Mayo was.

The video also saw the arrival and departure of some high-ranking Aminado, while Domingo admitted that the police procedure was negligent in Mayo’s arrest. But he clarified that removing Mayo’s handcuffs was part of a “tactical” move to arrest the other suspects in Pasig after Mayo’s arrest.
