Barangay tanods in Barangay Sta, Maria, Gloria, Oriental Mindoro arrested a 31-year-old policeman for attempting to rob a hardware store.
The suspect was identified as Police Corporal Leonell Maranan, assigned to the Technical Support Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion of the MIMAROPA PNP.
According to the Gloria Police report, at around 10 pm last Friday, two barangay tanods and a resident behind ABC Hardware heard a noise.
When they went to the hardware, they discovered that the doorknob was broken. They also found the plier, screwdriver, and hammer that were allegedly used to break the doorknob.
Barangay tanods guarded the store, and 30 minutes later, the suspect policeman came out in the dark.
Police recovered his cal.9mm service firearm.
According to Gloria Police chief Major Edwin Villarba, the policeman was addicted to online cockfighting, so he committed the theft attempt.
Police face attempted robbery and administrative charges.
According to the Regional Personnel and Record Management Division of the MIMAROPA Police records, 89 administrative cases since January 1, 2021, have been recorded against police officers in the region, and only 81 have been resolved.

Policeman addicted to e-sabong robs gas station
On Monday, authorities said that a policeman was arrested in Pagsanjan, Laguna, after he robbed a gas station in Batangas.
Laguna police identified the suspect as Patrolman Glenn Angoluan, who was also involved in a series of holdups at convenience stores in Laguna.
Angoluan is assigned to the Laguna 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company.
The suspect was caught at a checkpoint in Barangay San Isidro, Pagsanjan after robbing a gasoline station in Santo Tomas, Batangas.
The suspect was riding a motorcycle without a license plate number when he was arrested.
According to Laguna police director Col Rogarth Ocampo, the suspect was addicted to online cockfighting.
The suspect allegedly owed up to P1 million, which his parents paid.
After that, Angoluan allegedly got into debt again, so he went into debt.
Angoluan is currently detained in a detention cell in Santo Tomas. The fiscal’s recommended bail for him is up to P100,000.
