Before testing positive for COVID-19, Ellen DeGeneres gives Filipina nurse brand new car

TV Ellen DeGeneres surprised a Filipina nurse in the United States with a brand new car. This was before the comedian revealed that she tested positive for COVID-19.
Ellen and television producer Andy Lassner will be giving new cars to COVID-19 frontliners in the US all-month long.
Among the lucky winners is Los Angeles-based Filipina nurse Flor Maylyn Roz.

Flor is a licensed practical nurse attending to COVID-19 patients.

“I became a nurse because since I was a kid, I love helping people,” she said in the interview.

“The pandemic has changed everything. People who are sick, since they cannot be visited by their family, I would be the one who’s gonna be by their side and let them know that there is this person who loves them.”

The Filipina nurse is happily married and has a two-year-old son. Due to the nature of her work, she hasn’t seen her kids for months.

“It’s been hard, and I haven’t been home for months because I work with COVID-19 patients, and it’s just heartbreaking not to see your family,” she added.

“But I can’t do anything but to be strong for them.”

She also revealed that she tested positive for COVID-19 in March, which caused her family’s financial struggles.

“I got COVID back in March. I was positive. I had to stop working for months, and it has affected me financially,” she said.

“Right now, me and my husband share a car. If I don’t have the car, I sometimes ask my co-workers to pick me up, or I walk, or sometimes I take Uber.”

As a tribute to Flor, Ellen gave her brand new Hyundai Palisade.

Ellen DeGeneres said, “It’s just amazing what you’re doing, and I know you and your husband are sharing one car.”

“So I’ve partnered with Hyundai, and they want to thank you for your service, and they want to give you this Hyundai Palisade.

“No more Ubers for you.”

Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres announced Friday that she tested positive for COVID-19.

“Hi Everyone,” Ellen DeGeneres wrote. “I want to let you all know that I tested positive for Covid-19. Fortunately, I’m feeling fine right now. Anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified, and I am following all proper CDC guidelines. I’ll see you all again after the holidays. Please stay healthy and safe.”
