COVID-19 bed occupancy in Manila hospitals slightly decreased: LGU

The bed occupancy rate in the city of Manila has dropped slightly, according to the city’s local government.

On Facebook Live conducted by the Manila Public Information Office Balitang Manila, Manila City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan said that as of Aug. 24, 314 of the 491 COVID-19 beds in the city’s district hospitals had been occupied. This is equivalent to 64 percent of hospital beds.

These numbers are down slightly compared to data on Aug. 23, where 345 or 70 percent were occupied COVID-19 beds.

At Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital, which has 344 COVID-19 beds, 312 or 91 percent are already occupied.

Of the quarantine facilities with 883 COVID-19 beds, 192 or 22 percent are already occupied.

It also dropped slightly compared to the data on August 23, which recorded a 216 or 24 percent bed occupancy rate.

According to Dr. Pangan, 70-75 percent of the patients admitted to 6 district hospitals, Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital, and quarantine facilities were not vaccinated.

At Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, there is no queue outside the emergency room. Likewise, at the Sampaloc Hospital, there is also no queue to enter the hospital.

Meanwhile, more than 1.9 million  have been injected in Manila, according to the local government.

According to the latest data from the Manila Health Department, a total of 1,907,267 have been vaccinated in the city of Manila, while 763,670 have been fully vaccinated.

Benigno Aquino Elementary School is one of the 3 special community sites that have been vaccinated apart from the 18 schools in the city that have been turned into vaccination sites.

One day before the vaccination, the barangay gives out the number and time of their vaccination to avoid congestion.

Aside from  in schools, drive-thru vaccination will continue at the Quirino Grandstand, which is fully booked until August 29.

There will also be a  service vaccination this Tuesday for bedridden residents.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health recorded 13,573 new coronavirus disease infections Wednesday.

The number of new COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region rose 13%, according to new data released by the OCTA Research Group today.
