Occupancy in ICU of SPMC at critical level

According to its official, the occupancy rate in the intensive care unit of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) is already at a critical level due to the COVID-19 cases.

, utilization of ICU beds is now at almost 100 percent, while utilization of isolation and COVID-19 ward beds is now at more than 70 percent.

According to the Department of Health Davao region, 133 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Davao City on Thursday.

Occupancy in ICU of SPMC at critical level

The Davao City Health Office also called on private hospitals to open and provide COVID-19 beds to help patients who SPMC can no longer treat.

“SPMC is a national hospital. It does not just cater to Davao City or Davao Region but practically the whole of Mindanao. Hindi rin pwedeng limitahan na para lang ‘yan sa Davao City because anyone should be accommodated by SPMC as much as possible,” ani Lopez.

Aside from the usual strict health protocols, one of the priorities of the local government in Davao is to avoid mass gatherings especially based on the data, most of the COVID-19 cases are still local transmission.

In total, there have been 16,388 COVID-19 cases in Davao City. 1,257 of these are active cases.

The Department of Health recorded 8,748 new infections of coronavirus disease on Friday, bringing the total to 1,209,154 COVID-19 cases.
