167 PUVs impounded for violating enhanced community quarantine

About 167 public utility vehicles were impounded by the PNP-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) after continuing to operate in the middle of an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

The HPG led by P / Brig. Gen. Elesio Cruz caught public transport taxis along EDSA-Santolan in Quezon City after President Rodrigo Duterte announced the enhanced quarantine community.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Archie Gamboa has earlier warned that public transport vehicles (PUVs) caught operating amid the total lockdown in Luzon would be impounded.

According to Gamboa, the law needs to be enforced for the sake of the safety of the majority.

According to Gamboa, he will ask the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to come up with an official order that includes the temporary suspension of all mass transport vehicles.

They will also face administrative charges concerning their franchise. The chief said the order is so simple, and that is not to operate.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said that under the enhanced community quarantine, all mass public transport operations such as buses, jeepneys, taxis, Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS), UV Express, Point-to-Point, buses, and motorcycle taxis would be canceled.

Meanwhile, many have commuters have suffered due to the mass transportation ban, including senior citizens, sick individuals, and even medical frontliners.

CNN Philippines reported a 64-year-old man who walked for three hours, from Floodway, Pasig City to Greenhills, San Juan City, and was allowed to pass through the checkpoint.

He said his 86-year-old employer who lives in San Juan asked him to buy medicines.
