National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a Korean national and his two Pinays accomplice for alleged illegal recruitment of female singers and dancers to Korea.
According to John Consulta’s report in GMA News “24 Oras” on Monday, the arrested suspects allegedly use Facebook to find job seekers who want to work as a singer and dancer in Korea.
Applicants, in turn, would go to an expensive hotel for “audition.” When they pass, they will be directed individually to a room for a “one-on-one show” in front of the Korean employer.
However, one complainant suspected that something else would be done to them when they arrive in Korea.
The three suspects were arrested in an entrapment operation wherein an NBI undercover auditioned. Authorities also rescued four applicants who were promised of high salary and free accommodation.
The agency the Korean and the Pinays are using for illegal recruitment has been operating since 2015. NBI found it was not registered in the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
“Malaki ang posibilidad na nauuwi sa prostitution ang kababayan natin kaya dapat mag-ingat sila sa ganitong modus,” said Ronald Aguto, chief, NBI-Interpol.
(There is a high chance that our people would end up in prostitution so they should be careful about this modus.)
The suspects, who would face a syndicated large scale illegal recruitment case, refused to give a statement about their arrest.
