2 Koreans arrested for using fake money in casino

Authorities arrested two Koreans for attempting to exchange fake P1,000 bills with casino chips in a casino hotel in Pasay City.

Police identified the suspects as Seong Bok Min, 52, a call center agent, and Cheongyeol Yun, 49.

As per the Pasay City Police’s report, the incident occurred around 7 pm inside the Resort World Manila casino at Newport Boulevard in Brgy. 183 Villamor, Pasay City.

According to Donna Del Valle, 29, a casino cashier, the two Korean nationals tried to exchange casino chips.

Cheongyul gave 11 pieces of P1,000 bill while Seong attempted to exchange four of P1,000 bills.

When Del Valle examined the currencies as a standard operating procedure (SOP), she discovered that the money given by foreigners was counterfeit. She sought the assistance of the casino’s security officers led by Catherine Gaa and arrested the two Koreans.

It was 10 pm when the casino’s security team endorsed two Koreans to the Villamor Police Community Precinct. The two suspects are now facing charges of violating Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or the use of counterfeit money at the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.

Last month, Korean was arrested for stealing chocolates in Cavite.

How to spot a fake peso bills

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) gave the public a quick guide on how to distinguish counterfeit money so as not to be victimized.

  • The public can use the basic look-tilt-feel verification measure.
  • Before receiving money, first, look for the watermark on the blank area of the money by tilting the paper bill a bit.
  • Feel the money and make sure it is rough, and the images are raised.
  • Find the security threads that appear stitch-like and metallic.
  • For 500 and 1000 bills, ensure that there are round reflective patches on the left front side that change color when rotated.
  • Verify the money in front of the source before receiving it to avoid suspicion of swapping the real for the fake.
