X-ray technician arrested after allegedly molesting a patient

An x-ray technician in Quezon City was arrested after allegedly molesting a female patient, according to a report by James Agustin in Unang Balita this Thursday.

The crime reportedly happened at a hospital in Novaliches after the suspect gave the victim a free ECG procedure.

The suspect was identified as Michael Petras, 51 years old. He was arrested after the 22-year-old victim approached the police this Wednesday.

“Nag-conduct kaagad tayo ng follow-up operation, inabutan natin paalis na ito (suspek), alas singko ng hapon,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Castillo, chief of Novaliches Police Station.

(We immediately conducted a follow-up operation, we caught this (suspect) leaving, at five in the afternoon.)

According to the victim, he went to the hospital on Tuesday to get her x-ray results. There, the suspect offered her to come back the next day for a free ECG or electrocardiogram.

Upon arriving at the hospital, the suspect allegedly sent the victim to the x-ray room.

“Hindi po siya mapakali. Patingin-tingin po siya kasi baka daw po mahuli siya. Tapos sinarado na po niya ‘yung pintuan, nag-red light siya kahit hindi x-ray ‘yung gagawin sa akin,” the victim said.

(He is restless. He is looking around because he might be caught. Then he closed the door. He turned on the red light even though he wasn’t going to x-ray me.)

“Pagkatapos niya pong gawin sa akin, pagkatapos ng serbisyo niya, tsaka niya ginawa ‘yung kahalayan niya,” she added.

Due to the trauma, the victim could not ask for help and instead reported to her husband after returning home.

It was learned that Petras had been working as an x-ray technician for over two decades. He admitted to the crime and apologized to the victim.

According to Castillo, the doctors at the hospital did not know what Petras was doing.

“Kasi ang ginagawa nito (suspek), sinasalubong sa labas (ang pasyente), inaakay hanggang sa loob,” said Castillo.

Petras will face an Act of Lasciviousness complaint. The police are calling on other possible victims of the suspect to contact them to file an additional complaint.
