Authorities discovered a woman’s body this Sunday morning inside an abandoned car on the side of Maharlika Highway, Barangay Don Tomas, Santa Elena, Camarines Norte.
According to the police, the corpse was in the advanced stage of decomposition, so the area residents noticed the pungent smell coming from the car.
According to residents, Thursday 22nd July 22 at dawn, they noticed the car on the side of the highway.
They allegedly thought that the vehicle was damaged, and the owner left it there.
On Saturday, residents were reportedly surprised because no one had taken the car.
This Sunday morning, a resident’s car had been approached because of the pungent odor coming from it.
When they peeked inside the car, the corpse was found there.
Based on the report of the Santa Elena Municipal Police Station (MPS), there is a record at the border checkpoint of Camarines Norte that a car entered the province on July 19, 2021, carrying two people.
Together with representatives of the PNP Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, authorities first inspected the car before it was opened to make sure it was safe.

During SOCO’s investigation at the crime scene, IDs and other documents were found in the woman’s bag.
An ID found the name Mary Ann Galicia Esguerra of Barangay San Andres, Cainta, Rizal.
The Santa Elena Municipal Police Station called on those who know Mary Ann Esguerra to contact their office.
This Sunday afternoon, a relative positively identified the victim who was found inside the abandoned car.
The relative went to Santa Elena MPS and identified the body as Mary Ann Galicia Esguerra of Paracale, Camarines Norte.
According to police, they have been looking for Mary Ann for several days.
The woman’s remains are scheduled to undergo an autopsy on Monday, July 26, to determine the cause of her death.
It is also said that it is being ascertained who was the last companion of the victim when she was last seen alive.
