Wife of slain guard in Ateneo shooting cries justice

The security guard who was killed in a shooting incident at the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Quezon City on Sunday afternoon was a good spouse, brother and son.

In a report by GMA News “Unang Balita” this Tuesday, it was said that the relatives of Jeneven Bandiala, a security guard at Ateneo, who was also killed in the shooting, are asking for justice.

The investigation showed that the murdered former Lamitan, Basilan Mayor Rose Furigay was the target of the arrested suspect, Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol, also from Lamitan.

Furigay’s aide, Victor Capistrano, was also killed, while the former mayor’s daughter, Hannah, was injured.

It was learned that Bandiala had been a security guard at Ateneo for four years.

He helps with the needs of his mother and brother.

Bandiala’s partner, Christina Mascardo, could not accept what happened to her spouse.

“Masakit po para sa akin. Nabigla po ako nung malaman ko. Hindi ko po alam kung anong gagawin ko. Sabi ko, ‘Bakit ganun, bakit siya pa? Bakit dinamay siya?’” she said.

The victim’s brother, Raymond Bandiala, said Yumol should feel guilty for what he did.

“Sana naman makonsensya ka sa ginawa mo sa kapatid ko. Wala naman siyang kasalanan sa inyo. Ginawa lang naman yung trabaho niya. Bakit dinamay niyo pa?” said Raymond.

Bandiala was shot in the chest and thigh when he tried to stop the fleeing Yumol.

Meanwhile, James Agustin’s report in Unang Balita said that the remains of Furigay and Capistrano were brought to the Cosmopolitan Memorial Chapel in Quezon City to be buried there first.

Furigay’s remains will be brought home to Basilan when Hannah can leave the hospital. Capistano’s family initially refused to grant an interview, but they are also taking care of the repatriation of his remains to Basilan.

According to Basilan Governor Jim Hataman Salliman, a state of mourning will be declared in the province because of what happened to the former mayor.

Furigay and Capistrano went to Ateneo because Hanna was among those graduating from the law course that day.

The motive for Yumol’s shooting of the former mayor appears to be conflicting.
