A circulating social media showing a teacher slapping students goes viral, Friday, 30.

Parents of the students filed a complaint against the male teacher in Pedro E. Diaz High School, Muntinlupa City. This is after he was caught on slapping the students.


The teacher was identified to be Jom Borja, Citizen Army Training (CAT) commandant and a Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) instructor in the said high school.

The eight-second showed Borja, wearing a red shirt, giving sharp slaps to his Grade 10 students. Borja walked around and gave the students were lined-up, one slap each.

One parent under the name of “Maria” said that Borja thought that the students were laughing at him. That made him angry and started to slap the students.


Maria said, “Iyung ngumiti lang, palibhasa po mga bata, ‘pag ngumiti ‘yung isa biglang nagtawanan lang. Tapos ito pong si Sir Jom nagsalita na ‘pinagtatawanan niyo ba ako?’ Hindi lang daw [‘yung anak ko] ang sinampal, pang-5 na daw po ‘yun.” (Someone just smiled, because they were kids, when one smiled, the rest laughed. Then Sir Jom said, ‘are you laughing at me? It’s not just my child who got slapped, he was actually the fifth one.)

Another complaining parent alias “Jay” also reported that his child experienced the same abuse from Borja. He said Borja slapped and hit the child’s nape. Borja also took his child’s cellphone and returned it after three days.

Teacher slapping students for investigation

The parents and students already brought the incident to the school’s principal. The principal said they already removed Borja from his position as MAPEH teacher and CAT commandant.


The principal also forwarded the case to the Department of Education for proper investigation and further action.

DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla reminded everyone of the child protection policy, “Immediately po kailangan magkaroon ng complaint or incident report. Pag nai-report ‘yan, within 48 hours ay mabigay po sana ‘yung incident or ‘yung complaint. And within 72 hours, kailangan naibigay na po ito sa ating disciplining authority.”

Parents of the students were determined to push the case against Borja.
