Wanted South Korean woman arrested – BI

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said its agents have arrested a South Korean woman wanted by authorities in her country for fraud.

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said 28-year-old Kim Yerum is now in BI custody, following her April 25 arrest in Angeles City, Pampanga by members of the Bureau’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).

Kim was arrested on the strength of a deportation warrant issued by Tansingco based on a summary deportation order, which the BI Board of Commissioners issued against the Korean in October 2021.

She was ordered deported after the South Korean authorities informed the BI about her presence in the country, and her record as a wanted fugitive in Korea.

Kim is presently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting deportation.

BI-FSU Acting Chief Rendel Ryan Sy disclosed that Kim is also subject of a red notice from the Interpol in March 2020, or seven months after an arrest warrant for fraud was issued against her by the Suwon District Court in Korea.

Sy said Kim was accused of being a member of a voice phishing syndicate called “Minjun family” that has been operating since 2017.

Sy added that Kim is already an undocumented alien as her passport was already revoked by the Korean government.

Meanwhile, BI also announced the arrest of a Japanese national wanted by authorities in Tokyo for involvement in financial fraud.

In  a statement, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the fugitive as Sato Shohei, 32, who was arrested last April 24 along Newport Blvd., Pasay City by operatives from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).

Tansingco said the arresting agents were armed with a warrant, which he issued pursuant to a summary deportation  that the BI Board of Commissioners issued against Shohei last February.

“He was ordered deported after the Japanese government sought our  in locating and arresting him, so he can be deported to his country to stand trial for his alleged crimes,” the BI Chief said.
