The Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 69 granted the petition of actor and host Vhong Navarro to be granted bail for the rape case filed by model-stylist Deniece Cornejo.
In a 21-page decision dated December 5, Presiding Judge Loralie Cruz Dataman granted the petition for bail filed by the actor’s camp.
According to Dataman, the Court set P1 million bail for Navarro’s temporary freedom while the case is heard.
“Wherefore, premises considered, the petition for bail is hereby GRANTED. The bail of the accused for his provisional liberty is hereby fixed at One Million Pesos (Php 1,000,000.00),” explained the decision.
On November 21, Navarro was transferred to the Taguig City Jail from the National Bureau of Investigation facility in compliance with the November 7 court order.
In January 2014, model Denice Cornejo accused Vhong Navarro of attempted rape, which he denied.
Netizens also claimed the influential uncle Kat Alano was referring to was Paquito “Jojo” Navarro Ochoa Jr., the former Executive Secretary of the Philippines under the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.
Vhong Navarro allowed to post P1M bail
“When I was raped by #rhymeswithwrong, still famous celebrity who had smear campaigns to destroy my career and raped many more, I was wearing a t-shirt and jeans. He drugged me too, so trying to take my jeans off was difficult for him. Hard to rape an unconscious person in jeans. #HijaAko,” Kat tweeted on June 15, using a hashtag Twitter users have been using to emphasize that women were not raped because of their clothing.
“And for all those who bashed me and enjoyed my downfall, I still stand by my truth. That man is a serial rapist. And #RapeisRape #HijaAko,” she added.
A few days later, Alano explained why she did not come forward at the time and file a case against the alleged rapist.
“By the way, for everyone asking why I never filed. His uncle made sure that all cases against him would be dismissed. I found this out firsthand. Also they have been waiting to file a case against me to silence me and discredit me in the media, knowing I could never get justice by filing,” she said.
The 2014 rape case against Vhong Navarro was dismissed, and he is now married to a long-time girlfriend, Tanya Bautista.
