Valenzuela City suspended the business permit of Nexgreen Enterprise, the company that paid 5-centavo and 10-centavo coins to their employee.
The Office of the City Mayor said Nexgreen Enterprise committed the following violations:
- Mayor’s permit
- Waiver and/or Undertaking:
- Article 19 of the Civil Code of the Philippines in relation to BSP Circular No.537, Series of 2006, when it paid its worker his salary in coins of small denomination than the limit allowed by the law
- Provisions of the Labor Code when it failed to pay correct minimum wage, non payment of Overtime Pay, non payment of Night Shift Differential, non payment of Holiday Pay; and
- Provisions of other legislations for non-coverage of SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG fund.
“In light thereof, you being responsible officer of the above-named business enterprise, are hereby directed to rectify all the noted violations within 24 hours from receipt hereof. Otherwise, we will have no recourse but to have the issued Business Permit in favor of the above-named business establishment suspended or revoked or not renew, as may be warranted under the applicable law, Ordinance, rules, and regulations,” Mayor Rex Gatchalian said.
Valenzuela City suspends permit of Nexgreen Enterprise for paying worker centavos
Factory worker Russel Mañosa is upset after being paid a bag of coins by his employer on Saturday.
To make matters worse, he said, only five and ten cents were paid for P1,056, which is equivalent to 2 days’ salary.
Earlier, Mañosa and other colleagues in the barangay complained that Nexgreen Enterprise did not pay them, something the owner allegedly annoyed about.
The factory worker allegedly tried to return the coins and replace them with banknotes, but the cashier refused.
Out of resentment, Mañosa resigned from the company and is now looking for another job.
“Nakakainsulto po eh kasi ganyan po nadatnan ko imbes na papel po makukuha ko eh. Nakakainis din po. Hindi ko po sana kukuhanin pero bigla pong sinabi na umalis na raw po ako, nakuha ko na sahod ko, pabuo ko na lang daw po sa bangko,” he said.
“Naka-pack po na ganiyan eh. Sinadya po ‘yan. ‘Yong mga centavo po na ‘yan may mga tape pa po siya eh,” the factory worker added.
