Vaccination of those with comorbidities, seniors begins in Calamba

Vaccination against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has already started among senior citizens and those with comorbidity at a mall in Calamba City.

Laguna is covered by the National Capital Region Plus Bubble, which is now under modified enhanced community quarantine, in the face of an increase in COVID-19 cases.

According to the Calamba local government, the number of COVID-19 cases in their city has been at 789 since Wednesday, April 14.

The local government admitted that the number of COVID-19 cases in the city is increasing rapidly, so they are doing everything to solve it.

“We have around 700 plus active cases, well much better than Metro Manila I guess but siyempre, you know whatever happens in what area, it affect us all , so dito sa amin we’re trying the best we can to contain it so hindi na kami makakadagdag sa problema ng national government,” said Calamba Mayor Timmy Chipeco.

According to Chipeco, he sees the vaccine against the virus as the best solution to the disease problem, so even though the vaccination of medical frontliners has not been completed, they have already started vaccinating senior citizens as well as those with comorbidities.

“This is the only solution that I think that can stop this pandemic, talaga ang vaccine lang ang tanging paraan, of course it will take time but we just have to do it. We’re doing the fastest way we can. Alam niyo naman hindi naman pwedeng mabilisan lalo na medyo maselan po ‘yung mga senior natin. We are now proceeding based on the number of vaccines that’s been given to us,” said Chipeco.

The local government targets to finish the vaccination within 4 days.

It was held at a mall in the city to make the seniors comfortable with the vaccination.

According to John Jason Terrenal, senior vice president of operations in South Luzon of the mall chain where the vaccine was administered, physical distancing was observed inside the vaccination venue.

The LGU also ensures that the benefits of vaccination can be explained to everyone, in the face of doubts.
