Vaccination at 2 sites in Navotas temporarily discontinued

Vaccination was temporarily halted at two sites in Navotas after the local government needed additional personnel for the isolation facility.

This week, Mayor Toby Tiangco said a 150-bed isolation facility was built by the LGU due to the rising number of mild and asymptomatic cases of COVID-19.

According to the LGU, almost 1,000 doses were also lowered from the city’s daily target this week due to the need for frontliners to service those in quarantine facilities.

At the same time, health workers are needed to monitor home quarantines, so house-to-house vaccination for bedridden patients has also been temporarily stopped.

Tiangco said household transmission is still a clear trend, so the city is also implementing some residential lockdowns.

According to the mayor, the compliance of Navotas residents when it comes to wearing a face mask has increased.

According to Tiangco, it is difficult for many, even with assistance. The biggest challenge is whether the government will be able to assist those in need if the ECQ is extended in Metro Manila.

Regardless of the decision on the next quarantine status in Metro Manila, we still need to think of other ways to reduce COVID-19 cases continuously.

Instead of metro-wide ECQ, he favors implementing granular lockdown or ECQ only in areas, barangays or roads with high COVID-19 cases.

The city of Navotas will continue to assist. More than P95 million from the budget of almost P200 million was given by the city to the beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila mayors will not recommend quarantine status in the region. Still, they will leave the decision to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) for the 17 mayors.

According to Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos, this was after the Metro Manila Council (MMC) meeting held yesterday.

As concurrent chairman of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), Abalos said that as local executives are on the battleground, they must make decisions because the economic and  situation needs to be well balanced.
