UP-Manila grad tops 2020 Physician Licensure Exams

A graduate of the University of the Philippines-Manila topped the 2020 Physician Licensure Examinations, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Jomel Garcia Lapides, with a rating of 88.67 percent, bested over 3,500 medical students who successfully passed the 2020 Physician Licensure Exam.

Tiffany Uy, also a UP-Manila graduate who broke the record of having the highest grade point average in UP in 2015, is in fifth place.

Jolo Leachon, the son of a former National Task Force adviser, also passed the licensure examinations.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Institute of Medicine had a 100 percent passing rate, which is the highest among medical schools in the country.

Vice President Leni Robredo, Tricia Robredo also passed the licensure exams for doctors. Janine Patricia Robredo graduated in July with a dual degree in Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration from the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health.

As announced, 3,538 out of 4,704 (75.21%) passed the exams. The examination results concerning two (2) examinees were withheld pending final determination of their liabilities under the rules and regulations governing licensure examinations, and ninety-six (96) examinees were withheld pending completion of the remaining subjects in the Physician Licensure Examination.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) conducted the second regular Physician board exam on November 10, 11, 15, and 16, 2020, in Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.

Physician Licensure Exams previous top notchers

In the September 2019 Physician board exams, Federico Adriano Peralta IV from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) led the passers with 90.92%. Ray Zanoria Perez II of Cebu Institute of Medicine ranked second with 90.33%.

In the September 2018 PLE, Kurl Eduvas Jamora from De La Salle University (DLSU) – Health Sciences Institute Dasma topped the board with 91.08%. Martin Angelo Tan Zanoria of CIM came in second place with 90.92%.

In the September 2017 exams, Vincent Edouard Anthony Retardo Gullas of UST aced the board with 90.50%. John David Choa Monzon and Robert Carandang Rena, both from DLSU – HEI, ranked second with 90.08%.
