Ulysses intensifies into Tropical Storm

Tropical Depression Ulysses intensifies into a Tropical Storm, Pagasa reported on its recent severe weather bulletin, Monday, November 9.

At 4:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm Ulysses was estimated based on all available data at 575 km East of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

It is moving Northwestward at 15 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.

On the forecast track, Tropical Storm Ulysses will move generally northwestward today through tomorrow afternoon. Afterwards, it is forecast to turn westward and head towards the Bicol Region-Quezon area. A landfall over Bicol Region- Quezon area on Thursday is likely at this time.

Ulysses intensified into a Tropical Storm at 2:00 PM today. It is likely to reach Severe Tropical Storm category within 24 hours and may reach Typhoon category on Wednesday.

Today through tomorrow morning, light to moderate with at times heavy rains may prevail over Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, and Quezon due to the trough of Ulysses while moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte due to the Tail-End of a Cold Front.

Flooding (including flashfloods), rain-induced landslides, and sediment-laden streamflows (i.e. lahar) may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards and/or those that received significant antecedent rainfall from tropical cyclones.

PAGASA Regional Services Divisions may issue local thunderstorm/rainfall advisories and heavy rainfall warnings while the Hydrometeorology Division and River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Centers may issue General Flood Advisories and Basin Flood Bulletins as appropriate.

Based on available data, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 may be raised over some localities in Bicol Region or Eastern Visayas as early as tonight or tomorrow early morning in anticipation of the onset of strong breeze to near gale conditions associated with Ulysses.

Rough to very rough seas (2.8 to 4.5 m) will prevail over the entire seaboards of Northern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, and the eastern and western seaboards of Southern Luzon.
