Typhoon Egay leaves 26 dead, over 300K displaced

Tuesday morning, the agency announced that 108 areas in six regions of Luzon were placed under a state of emergency due to both the effects of Typhoon Egay and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

According to the NDRRMC’s most recent circumstance report, these cities and municipalities are in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Meanwhile, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. assured the public on Tuesday that there would be enough rice buffer supply despite the tremendous agricultural destruction caused by Egay in Northern Luzon.

Marcos met with Department of Agriculture officials to examine the effects of Egay on rice production in the country, as well as efforts to assure a sufficient supply of rice.

He stated that DA officials informed him of an adequate supply of rice and corn seeds, as well as high-value crops, to be provided to impacted farmers.

To Egay-affected areas, the DA will deliver 111,873 bags of rice seeds, 14,426 bags of maize seeds, and 2,582 kg of different vegetable seeds.
