Tito Sotto back to work after accepting defeat in VP race

After announcing that he accepted the “will of the people,” Senate President Tito Sotto returned to work for Congress to count the votes of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2022 Elections.

Tito Sotto believes that Congress can quickly announce the winners of the elections.

“We will try to make it as swift as possible because I don’t see a delay,” Sotto told reporters, regarding the huge advantage of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s and vice presidential bet Sara Duterte over the rivals based on the partial and unofficial count on the media transparency server of the Commission on Elections.

“Ito baka pareho ito noong 2016. Automated na, two to three days lang tapos na,” added Sotto, running-mate of former presidential bet Sen. Ping Lacson.

If the counting of votes is completed quickly, Sotto said they will still have time in the Senate to pass bills before Congress’ “sine die” adjournment on June 3.

“Yun ang hirit ni Migz Zubiri sa akin as majority leader. Gusto niya meron pang maisingit na for second reading so that we will be able to pass it on third reading in the week that will follow,” explained Sotto.

The Senate and the House of Representatives will form the National Board of Canvassers to count votes.

According to Sotto, Senators Imee Marcos, Franklin Drilon, Francis Tolentino, Pia Cayetano, Grace Poe, and Zubiri will be part of NBC. Sens Ralph Recto, Sonny Angara, and Cynthia Villar will be alternate members.

Earlier, Sotto said voters had already decided who they wanted to lead the town, and he accepted it.

“The people have made their choice. I accept the will of the people,” said Sotto.

“We presented an alternative for a better system in governance and politics, but the electorate had their minds conditioned elsewhere,” he added.

Tito Sotto is in third place in the unofficial count, and Sara Duterte is far ahead in the vice presidential race.

His standard-bearer Lacson also accepted the result of the count and said his family would be the one he would serve.
