TD Maymay downgraded to a Low Pressure Area

The threat of heavy rainfall continues as Tropical Depression Maymay weakens into a Low Pressure Area, Pagasa reported on its 5 am severe weather bulletin.

The Low Pressure Area (formerly “MAYMAY”) was estimated based on all available data over the coastal waters of Casiguran, Aurora. It is moving West Southwestward at 15 km/h with maximum sustained winds of km/h near the center and gustiness of up to km/h.

Today through tomorrow early morning, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Cagayan, Isabela, and Apayao. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the rest of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Under these conditions and considering significant antecedent rainfall, scattered to widespread flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are expected especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard as identified in hazard maps, and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall.

Despite the lifting of wind signals, occasional gusts reaching strong to gale-force strength associated with the enhanced northeasterly surface windflow may still be experienced (especially in the coastal and mountainous areas) over Batanes, Cagayan, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region.

Due to the surge of northeasterly surface windflow, rough to very rough seas (2.8 to 5.5 m) will prevail over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon. For more information, refer to Gale Warning #8 issued at 5:00 AM today.

TD Maymay downgraded to a Low Pressure Area

Moderate to rough seas (1.5 to 3.5 m) over the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon. These conditions may be risky for those using small seacrafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions.

The remnant circulation of “MAYMAY” is forecast to track westward towards Aurora. Due to the frictional effects, this may dissipate within 12 hours.

Meanwhile, in Cagayan, two fishermen were discovered dead in separate locations during the bad weather brought on Maymay.

One of the fisherman was discovered in the municipality of Buguey, and the other was discovered in the barangay of Ipil in the town of Gonzaga.
