“Our partnership with foreign counterparts have proved to be stronger than ever, and has been very effective in the interception of fugitives attempting to cross borders,” he added.

IACAT rescues 6 trafficking victims

Six tourist female passengers (4 for Malaysia, 2 for Singapore) were intercepted at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal III on July 30, 2023, and endorsed by the Bureau of Immigration’s Immigration Protection and Border Enforcement Section (I-PROBES) to the NAIATFAT of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking. Five of these women were human trafficking victims, and one of their acquaintances was apprehended as their trafficker.

All of them initially stated that they were tourists in Malaysia and sponsored by De Leon throughout the interview. Five (5) said De Leon was their Sales Encoder Assistant, while one (1) claimed she is a relative helping De Leon because she is pregnant. However, De Leon claimed to be an International Property Specialist of a Philippine developer.

The NAIATFAT of IACAT referred the travellers to NBI-IAID. The five passengers revealed that they encountered De Leon that day at an NAIA Terminal III fast food outlet. A woman named “Tiffany” allegedly offered them work in Malaysia, but they met De Leon that day and handed their bogus employment documents to immigration agents.
