Taiwanese abducted, sold several times to POGO companies

A Taiwanese who was allegedly a victim of kidnapping was rescued in Parañaque City Tuesday morning.

The representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) police attachè of the Taiwan Embassy, ​​filed a complaint with the Philippine National Police chief’s office that a Taiwanese national was allegedly kidnapped in Makati City on Monday.

The victim allegedly contacted them via text message.

The victim’s whereabouts were traced to the 28th floor of a building in Parañaque City. The victim was alone when the police found him.

During the initial investigation by the authorities, on February 26, 2021, the victim applied for a job through a mobile app on a social media platform operated by a Chinese company.

The agreed salary is around 13,000 RMB. On the same day, he was picked up by a Filipino driver and an alleged Chinese employee of the said company.

He was taken to a hotel in Pasay City for quarantine. After 2 days, a group of Chinese picked him up and took him to Las Piñas City.

He was also allegedly told that he was being sold for 30,000 RMB for a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) company.

On March 1, the Taiwanese was allegedly sold again for 30,000 RMB to another POGO company.

Authorities found that the unit and the entire floor where the victim was found were one of the isolation facilities of the said POGO company for their future employees.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said its operatives have arrested a South Korean fugitive wanted by authorities in Seoul for swindling and defrauding his two compatriots of large sums of money.

In a report from BI FSU Chief Bobby Raquepo to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, it was disclosed that Lee Beomseok, 42, was arrested on Thursday inside a restaurant in Angeles City, Pampanga by elements from the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU).

Morente said he issued the mission order for Lee’s arrest at the request of the South Korean authorities in Manila which informed the BI that the alien is the subject of a criminal investigation for fraud in his country.
