SWS: 86% of adult Pinoys stressed over COVID-19

The recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released Thursday revealed that 86 percent of Filipinos have been stressed over the COVID-19 pandemic.

SWS said that of the 86 percent rating, 58 percent said they had “great stress” and 27 percent had “much stress.” The results are one percentage point higher than what is gathered last July.

On the other hand, only 14 percent of adult Filipinos felt a little stress or no stress at all.

The SWS survey conducted from September 17 to 20 also showed that the stress levels are higher among respondents who experienced involuntary hunger during the pandemic’s peak.

At least 69 percent of people who experienced hunger once or more in the past few months had great stress, 21 percent with much stress. It is higher than data among those who never experienced hunger, where 53 percent experienced great stress and 30 percent experience much stress.

Meanwhile, a Pulse Asia survey showed that eight out of 10 Filipinos approve of President Rodrigo Duterte and his administration’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis in the country.

The survey conducted from September 14 to 20 revealed that 84 percent of Filipinos had a “positive opinion about the Duterte administration’s work to control the spread of the novel coronavirus.”

Meanwhile, around 10 percent of the respondents were neutral on the government’s actions in addressing the pandemic, while 6 percent disapproved of their performance, showed the survey results.

This came after another Pulse Asia survey revealed that 9 out of 10 Filipinos, or 91%, approved Duterte’s performance while 5 percent disapproved, and the remaining 5 percent were undecided.

Ana Maria Tabunda, Research Director for Pulse Asia, said that the high approval and trust ratings of President Rodrigo Duterte were due to the government’s financial aid or “ayuda” to the people during the height of the COVID-19 crisis in the country.
