In a report by Jandi Esteban of GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on GMA News “24 Oras”, Davao City Police Office chief Police Colonel Alberto Lupaz said that what happened to Plaza was a “crime of passion.”

Durante was the alleged mastermind of the crime after the police identified the riding in tandem captured on CCTV who shot Plaza outside the house where she was staying.

Based on the testimonies of the witnesses, the rider, Corporal Adrian Cashero, and the alleged gunman, Private First Class Delfin Sialsa, are both members of the 1001st Brigade.

Cashero and Sialsa allegedly confessed to the crime and gave their account.

Sialso allegedly testified Durante as the crime’s mastermind, while Cashero said that the Deputy Commander of the 1001st Brigade, Colonel Michael Licyayo, taught them where the victim lived.

It is said that the investigators also obtained a lot of information when they obtained the victim’s belongings, such as a laptop and cell phone, where it was found that Plaza and Durante had a relationship.

Durante and eight others allegedly involved in the crime have been charged with murder.

According to the report, attempts are still being made to get the suspects’ comments.

But Durante, former head of the Presidential Security Group (PCG), previously denied that he had anything to do with what happened to Plaza, who is said to be his friend.

“Yvonne was a friend. My name is being dragged based on an FB post made last April 2022 wherein I allegedly hurt her. She later retracted the post and issued a statement that I did not in any way harm her,” he said in a previous statement.
