Suspect in ambush of Gov. Adiong dead in police ops

The authorities killed one of the suspects in the ambush on the convoy of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. on February 17.

In a statement issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP) this Tuesday, the Police Regional Office – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region chief Police Brigadier General John Guyguyon, alias “Otin” has just identified the suspect who was killed in connection with the police pursuit of the suspects because in the ambush of the governor that happened in Bukidnon.

Adiong survived, but his four companions, including three policemen and a driver, were killed.

According to the PNP, Otin is said to be the son of an alias “Fighter,” who is also among the wanted suspects.

In a report by GMA Regional TV “One Mindanao” this Wednesday, Police Major Alvison Mustapha, spokesperson of the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office, said that the suspects in the ambush of Adiong are not members of Dawlah Islaiyah or Isis.

“Ang pagkakakilanlan natin sa kanila ay group of wanted persons na parang nag-organize ng sariling grupo nila,” the official said.

He also confirmed that such a suspect was killed in an ambush, but he did not have a real identity.

In this regard, the investigators are said to be contacting the victims and their families to get their statement on what happened in relation to the case to be filed against the suspects.

“We condemn this senseless act of violence against our public servants. We assure the public that the PNP will exhaust all efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice,” said PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr.

“We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims, and we will not rest until those responsible are held accountable for their actions,” he added.

The police had previously announced that the motive of the assailants in the ambush on the group of local officials might have something to do with the governor’s anti-drug campaign.
