Supreme Court postpones 2020 Bar exam

The Supreme Court on Wednesday announced the 2020 Bar exam would be postponed amid the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country and the community quarantine.

“Upon the recommendation of the 2020 Bar examinations Chairperson, and in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country, as well as the social and economic disruption caused by the pandemic and the resulting Enhanced Community Quarantine, the Supreme Court en banc resolved to postpone the 2020 Bar Examinations,” read the Bar Bulletin No. 11 signed by Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, chairman of the 2020 Bar Examination Committee.

The postponement is to give the “Court ample time to determine the necessary adjustments and to make adequate preparations for the safe and orderly conduct of examinations.”

“The new schedule shall be announced in a separate Bar bulletin by June 2020 when the current adjustments to the present pandemic become clearer,” the Bar Bulletin further stated.

The 2020 Bar exam will definitely set “sometime in 2021.”

Chairperson Senior Associate Justice Estela M. Perlas-Bernabe said 2,103 out of 7,685 examinees (27.36%) who completed the 2019 bar exam passed.

She also said the passing rate had been lowered from 75% to 74%.
