Skyway Stage 3 opens in December; will be toll-free for a month – SMC

Conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) announced Tuesday that the newly-completed Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 would open to motorists by December, and it would be toll-free for a month.

SMC president and COO Ramon Ang said the 18-kilometer elevated expressway would be soft-open in the next two months and open for free to all motorists for an entire month.

San Miguel also added that it also partially opened the Buendia to Plaza Dilao section of Skyway 3 for the public for more than a year now.

According to SMC, the portion has remained open and free to date for use by the public without toll fees.

“We’re very proud and excited about this project because it will truly make a big difference to so many people’s lives, especially with our economy slowly opening up and with more vehicles coming back to our roads,” Ang said.

“While we’re still doing a few finishing works, we want the public to be able to use Skyway 3 already and benefit from the convenience and ease of travel that it will bring. We have all waited long for this project, so this is the best way we can welcome everyone by making Skyway 3 free for one month,” he added.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar announced the completion of the Skyway Stage 3.

“End to end, the whole Skyway is complete—substantially completed. At this point, we’re just working on the safety asphalt. We’re working with our concessionaire San Miguel,” Villar said in the Senate hearing of the P666.47 billion  budget proposal for 2021.

Due to Skyway Stage 3, the travel time from SLEX to NLEX will take only 20 minutes, compared to the current three hours.

The journey to Magallanes to Balintawak will be 15 minutes, Balintawak to Ninoy Aquino International Airport will be 15 minutes, and Valenzuela to Makati will be only 10 minutes.

The 18-kilometer elevated expressway comprises five sections: Buendia – Quirino Avenue – Nagtahan; Nagtahan – Aurora Blvd/Ramon Magsaysay Avenue; Ramon Magsaysay Avenue-Quezon Avenue; Quezon Avenue-Balintawak, and Balintawak, Quezon City-NLEX Footbridge.

Villar said that the Skyway Stage 3 project helps reduce the number of vehicles passing through EDSA.
