“Wala siyang awa [she has no mercy].” This is what the sister of the 51-year-old maid who was caught several times on CCTV to have been hurt by his Philippine ambassador to Brazil, Marichu Mauro.
In an exclusive report by JP Soriano on GMA News “24 Oras” on Thursday, the Filipina maid’s relative could not hide her resentment towards Mauro.
“Kawawa naman ‘yong kapatid ko. Ginaganyan niya. Dapat siyang makulong. Wala siyang awa,” said the victim’s sister.
“Sabi ko po grabe naman, bakit ginanyan mo kapatid ko? Pareho naman kayong Pinoy, kawawa naman,” she added when she saw the CCTV video that was first aired on a news network in Brazil and aired on “24 Oras” this Wednesday.
She also said that the maid had previously told them that the ambassador did not treat her well.
According to the domestic helper’s sister, the victim was supposed to return to the Philippines in April but did not continue.
She also said that her sister did not hold her passport.
Sister of abused helper wants Marichu Mauro jailed
Aside from the abuse, the maid was also banned from using a mobile phone and could not leave the ambassador’s official residence in Brazil.
Yesterday, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the Department of Foreign Affairs’ (DFA) investigation against Marichu Mauro.
Palace spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed the decision at a news conference in Bohol on Thursday.
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go Duterte gave his permission “in light of the gravity of allegations” against Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro following the DFA’s recommendation.
DFA chief Teodoro Locsin said that Mauro was recalled so the agency could “conduct an expedient and thorough investigation into the incidents of physical abuse perpetrated by her against her household staff as shown in the CCTV footage recently aired by a Brazilian news outfit.”
According to Section 51 of the Foreign Service Act, “Chiefs of Mission who are commissioned by the President as ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary shall not be investigated by the Board [of Foreign Service Administration] or separated from the service unless there is an express written directive from the President.”
