Senate approves additional benefits for health workers

The Senate has already approved the proposal on third and final reading to provide benefits and allowances to public and private health workers during state and national public health emergencies amid the pandemic.

By a 23-0-0 vote, Senate Bill 2421 or COVID-19 Benefits and Allowances For Health Workers Act of 2022 was approved.

The measure covers all public and private health workers, regardless of their employment status during a state of a public health emergency.

Even non-medical workers and outsourced personnel hired under an institutional or individual contract of service or job order basis assigned to health facilities are involved in the COVID-19 response.

Under the proposal, COVID-19 Risk Allowance will be provided each month it is served, and the amount to be provided will depend on the ‘risk exposure categorization.’

Those assigned to low-risk areas will be given a P3,000 allowance, P6,000 in medium-risk areas, and P9,000 in high-risk areas.

The measure also states that compensation will be provided once they fall ill or die due to COVID-19 while they are on duty.


House approves P1-M gift to centenarians

The Lower House of Congress has approved on third and final reading the bill that provides P1 million to Filipino centenarians or those over 101 years of age.

By a vote of 193-0-0, House Bill (HB) 10647 was fully adopted.

The said proposal aims to give a cash gift of P1-M on their birthday to Filipinos who reach 101-years-old.

Apart from this, the lucky Filipino centenarians will also be given a ‘felicitation letter’ from the President of the country.

Filipinos between the ages of 80, 85, 90, and 95 will receive P25,000 in addition to a ‘felicitation letter’ from the President.

The said bill also states that the National Commission of Senior Citizens is the government agency that will oversee the provision of P1-M cash gifts.
