Sen. Poe bares possible human trafficking case in NAIA

Sen. Grace Poe disclosed in her privilege speech this Wednesday, a case of alleged human trafficking at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

She said upon reaching their office on Monday, February 13, the PNP Aviation Security Group received a tip about a human trafficking activity involving an aircraft with tail number N9527E departing at 10 p.m. for Dubai.

After verifying, it was confirmed that the said plane had a scheduled flight on that day and time.

Six passengers were declared, but 14 boarded the plane that night.

Cloud Nine operate the said plane No 1 Leasing Company Limited, a Hong Kong registered leasing company, and their assigned aircraft ground handler is a local company, Globan Aviation Service Corporation or GLOBAN.

At around 5 pm, the PNP informed the aircraft inspectors of the possible operation and strictly warned them not to sign any document until the said plane and its passengers had been inspected.

“Mga 9:15 p.m., tatlong foreign national crew na sakay ng dalawang GLOBAN vans ang dumating. Sumunod dito, mga 10:11 p.m., isang GLOBAN van sakay ang tatlong Immigration officers at tatlong iba pang sasakyan sakay ang anim na foreign nationals ang dumating na rin. They were escorted by the Airport Police Department patrol vehicle,” said Poe.

In the flight general declaration, only three crew and six passengers should be on board the plane. But based on the information obtained by Poe from the Bureau of Immigration, 7 passengers are listed in their General Declaration – one Malaysian, Korean, Chinese, and Vanuatu, and three from Saint Kitts and Nevis. They were also told that their visas are a mix of tourist, employment, and Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV).

Poe said this was not the first time because in December 2022, Chinese nationals boarded a private aircraft, and the plane left without a pre-flight inspection clearance. It was reported to the MIAA, but no action was taken.

Sen. Risa Hontiveros pointed out that GLOBAN was also the company that tried to smuggle Pharmally executives Mohit and Twinkle Dargani out of the country during the height of the Senate investigation regarding the alleged anomalous procurement of PPEs by the government.
