Second wave of 3-day national COVID-19 vaccination begins

The second wave of the 3-day national COVID-19 vaccination days kicked off this Wednesday in 6 regions in Luzon, targeting 7 million individuals.

Among those who conducted the vaccination were the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon.

Vaccinations in the rest of the country were canceled from December 20 to 22 due to Typhoon Odette.

In Nueva Ecija, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez and Presidential Adviser on COVID-19 Response Vince Dizon led the start of the mass vaccination in Cabanatuan City.

From the previous 14, the COVID-19 vaccination sites opened in Nueva Ecija have climbed to 23.

In San Miguel, Manila, senior citizens lined up early at the National Center for Geriatric Health for a booster shot.

The National Center for Geriatric Health management clarified that non-seniors could also be vaccinated at their facility as long as six months have passed since the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In Pasig City, several schools and the Tanghalang Pasigueño were opened as vaccination sites.

“First come, first serve” is the system in Pasig, and you can walk in as long as you bring your ID and Pasig Pass QR code.

The first national vaccination drive took place from November 29 to December 1 but was extended to December 3. In total, more than 10 million were vaccinated in the first round.

More than 6 million doses of an additional supply of COVID-19 vaccines arrived in the Philippines on Tuesday.

These include Janssen, Moderna, and Sinovac vaccines donated from Austria, Sweden, France, Spain, The Netherlands, and China.

According to Duque, the vaccines will be distributed to various regions that need additional supply, including the Bangsamoro region.

During President Rodrigo Duterte’s Talk to the People, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez reported that the Philippines would get 200 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines next year.

For this week alone, Galvez said 24,473,800 doses of COVID-19 vaccines are expected to arrive:

  • J&J – 9,316,800 doses
  • Pfizer – 4,984,200 doses
  • Moderna – 5,208,900
  • Sinovac – 2,000,000
  • AstraZeneca – 2,963,900
