Sara Duterte no comment on video released by supporters

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio declined to comment on the music video released by her supporters, which was intended to encourage her to run for the presidency in the next election.

The Ituloy ang Pagbabago Movement (IPM) group recently released a video featuring the qualities they believe the next leader of the country should possess.

The next president must be principled, dependable, will protect the people, have a concrete plan, be smart, and have a heart, according to IPM.

Although Duterte is not mentioned in the video, the woman in the latter part of the video serves as a representation of the presidential daughter, according to IPM.

Last week, Duterte-Carpio announced that he had told his father, President Rodrigo Duterte, that she had no plans to run for the presidency.

“I do not understand why 1Sambayan and the Palace are playing a slapping game about a Duterte-Duterte tandem. The President already said he does not believe I am fit to be President because I am a woman. Period,” Sara Duterte told ABS-CBN News.

Last January, Sara Duterte also told her supporters to just wait until 2034.

In the 2016 elections, President Duterte also said that he would not run for the presidency but he later run and won.

On Saturday, 1Sambayan, the opposition coalition, named its possible candidate for President and vice president in the 2022 elections.

According to 1Sambayan convenor Howard Calleja, they are as follows:

Vice President Leni Robredo
Sen. Grace
Sen. Nancy Binay
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno
Former senator Sonny Trillanes
2 unnamed personalities

But immediately after that, Poe, Santos-Recto, Villanueva, and Diokno immediately said they were not interested in running.

In October, the certificate of candidacy for those who want to run in next year’s elections is scheduled.

According to political analyst Ramon Casiple and political strategist Armand Dean Nocum, it seems that the possible candidates are pursuing the last-minute strategy.

But they said the hint should stop, and those who want to run should formally announce and introduce themselves to the public.

“Panahon na maglitaw ang kandidato. Wala nang oras. Nage-expect na ako by end of this month… dapat magkaroon na tayo ng totoong kampanya. Naging uso ang last minute eh, taktika na ‘yan pero nagsimula na ang election season ngayon, obligado ka na magpakilala,” said Casiple.
