Sara Duterte may take oath before June 30 – Comelec

On Tuesday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) confirmed that likely Vice President Sara Duterte might be sworn in days before the present administration leaves office on June 30, 2022.

In a message to GMA News Online, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia acknowledged this but highlighted that Duterte will still begin her tenure as the country’s second-highest elected official on June 30 in the afternoon.

“Puwede naman po basta ang assumption ay June 30 at 12:01 [this is possible as long as the assumption will be on June 30 at 12:01 p.m.],” Garcia said.

Sara Duterte has scheduled her inauguration for June 19 in Davao City, indicating that she wants to honor her fellow Davaoenos by allowing them to see her taking the oath of office as vice president.

As of 2:47 p.m, according to the Comelec Transparency Media Server data, Sara Duterte still has a massive advantage over the other vice presidential candidates with 31,561,948 votes in the incomplete and unofficial tally on Friday.

Meanwhile, her running mate, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., won the presidential election with 31,104,175 votes in the exact incomplete and unofficial count.

As of this writing, 55,197,306 ballots had been cast out of a total of 67,442,616 registered voters. So far, 98.35 percent of the election returns have been processed.

According to information on the House of Representatives website, canvassing ballots for president and vice president in the May 9 elections will begin on May 24 and last through May 27.

The transfer of the ballot boxes containing the Certificates of Canvass (COCs) and Election Returns (ERs) from the Senate to the House on May 23 was one of the topics covered.

On May 24, before the joint session, it was agreed that the Consolidation and Canvassing System (CSS) machine would be moved from the House Legislative-Executive Lounge to the Plenary Hall.

Mendoza stated that canvassing would begin at 2 p.m. on May 24. Canvassing will take place from 10 a.m. on May 25 to 27. to 10 p.m.
