Lakas-Christian Muslims Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president House Majority Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez announced that they would support Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte if the mayor decides to run for president in the 2022 elections.
The statement was made by Romualdez after his party re-allied with Duterte’s regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
“If Mayor Sara Duterte decides to seek higher office for 2022, we are ready to work for her victory in the coming election,” said the congressman.
In the agreement, the two parties will allegedly support their future presidential candidate in the 2022 election.
“I call on other political parties to join us and be part of our mission to form a broad multi-party coalition anchored on shared principles. We need coalition partners that share the same vision of building a strong Republic through sustainable growth and development of the regions,” said Romualdez on Wednesday.
According to Romualdez, the strength of the HNP’s influence in the election has been tested.

“Nakita po natin sa 2019 elections, maraming nahalal na HNP-endorsed an, senatorial candidates. We are very mindful, we have deep respect for the influence and ability of the HNP to deliver support,” he explained.
So far, Lakas-CMD has no specific candidates for the upcoming elections.
He said he still has not decided whether he will run for vice president after he was endorsed by President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Pinag-iisipan natin nang husto, we are very much in deep consideration of this opportunity to vie for the second-highest position in the land, it would be done with consultations… from where I hail, the province of Leyte, of course with our party members, I will rely heavily on that,” he said.
Recently, President Duterte said that he had promised Romualdez that he would support him when he ran for vice president.
Romualdez admitted that the Chief Executive’s statement would be included in his decision in Election 2022.
