Robin Padilla believes platform, not fame made him no.1 senator

With his imminent victory as a senator in Election 2022, action star Robin Padilla believes that the people support the platform he is promoting for federalism and amending the Constitution.

In an interview with GMA News, Robin revealed that not only is his popularity the main reason why he gets high votes in the partial and unofficial count in the senatorial vote count.

“Kapag hindi nagbago yung trend at ako ay nanatili sa pagiging number one, isa lang po ang ibig sabihin nu’n: Ang tao gusto na talaga ng federalism at ‘yan po ang napakalaking hamon sa lahat po ng mga senador na mananalo po magmula sa akin,” the actor said.

(If the trend doesn’t change and I remain number one, it only means one thing: People really want federalism, which is a huge challenge for all senators who will win from me.)

“Ang naging number one po dito ay yung kagustuhan ng taong-bayan na palitan na po natin ang Saligang Batas. ‘Yon po ang aking pinaniniwalaan. ‘Yon po ang gusto ng taong-bayan. Hindi po ako, ang gusto po nila ay yung plataporma na ibigay ang kapangyarihan sa mga lalawigan,” he explained.

(What has become number one here is the desire of the people for us to change the Constitution. That’s what I believe. That’s what the people want. Not me. What they want is the platform to give power to the provinces.)

Robin runs under the ruling party, PDP-Laban. He thanked his supporters because he did not have enough funds to push his candidacy.

The number of votes from the Comelec Transparency Media server at 9:32 pm. Robin Padilla already garnered 17, 851, 883 votes and tops the list of senator candidates.

Robin is known as the “Bad Boy” of Philippine cinema for portraying anti-hero protagonist gangster roles in films such as Anak ni Baby Ama, Grease Gun Gang, Bad Boy, and Bad Boy 2. He has also been dubbed the “Prince of Action” of Philippine cinema.

Robin Padilla supports the controversial Philippine drug war, hailing the campaign as “most successful” and claiming that extrajudicial killings are a legitimate part of the government’s anti-crime strategy.
