Remains of pilots, crew of crashed C-130 plane arrive in Cebu

The remains of 3 pilots and 3 crew of the crashed C-130 aircraft in Sulu arrived at Mactan Air Base in Cebu on Wednesday.

At around 9 pm, the remains of 3 C-130 pilots, Maj Michael Vincent Benolerao, Maj Emmanuel Makalintal, and 1Lt Karl Joseph Hintay, landed at Brig Gen Benito N Ebuen Air Base or Mactan Air Base in Cebu.

The remains of their crew, TSgt Donald Badoy, SSg John Neil Macapaz, and Sgt Jack Navarro, were also brought there.

They were aboard a C-295 tactical military transport aircraft.

The fallen soldiers were given military honors by their comrades in the 220th Airlift Wing. In addition, they were brought to Cebu as a tribute to their mother unit.

After the arrival honors, the remains were taken to St. Peter’s funeral homes and then laid to rest in the chapel of Mactan Air Base.

According to the public information officer of the 220th Airlift Wing, Capt Dancel Bacaycay, it is not yet certain how long the remains of the soldiers will remain there, and this is based on the decision of their families.

Only Macapaz is from Lapu-Lapu City, while the others are from Luzon and Mindanao.

The Philippine Army of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) in Cagayan de Oro also gave military honors the arrival of six corpses of soldiers among those killed in the C-130 crash in Jolo, Sulu July 4.

Air force plane C295 landed at CDO Wednesday morning from Zamboanga City carrying the remains of six soldiers identified as:

– Sgt. Butch D. Maestro ng Balingoan,  Oriental
– Pvt. Vic A. Monera ng Dagumbaan, Bukidnon
– Pvt. Raymar C. Carmona ng Agusan del Norte
– Pvt. Mel Mark L. Angana ng Malaybalay, Bukidnon
– Pvt. Mark Nash P. Lumanta ng Dagumbaan, Bukidnon
– Pvt. Marcelino H. Alquisar ng Impasug-ong, Bukidnon

Meanwhile, Armed Forces chief General Cirilito Sobejana said the black box of the C-130 Hercules plane that crashed in  on Sunday would be sent to the US to help in the investigation.
