Raffy Tulfo to push for law protecting men against domestic violence

On Thursday, Raffy Tulfo, a broadcaster who is expected to win a senatorial seat in the recently ended elections, announced that he would file a measure to protect males from domestic violence.

Tulfo, among the Magic 12 senatorial candidates based on partial and unofficial results, said he would make domestic abuse “genderless” in an interview with GMA News’ Unang Balita.

“Paano naman kung si mister ang sinaktan? Wala tayong violence against men (How about if husbands were assaulted? We have no law on violence against men). So I will make violence in the family genderless,” he said.

Idol Raffy Tulfo said he would push for the law since his radio show frequently featured examples of domestic violence against men.

Tulfo also stated that he would endeavor to provide job options for women who have been victims of domestic violence.

According to him, some women victims were dependent on their abusive husbands. He said job opportunities would give these victims security when they leave their partners.

Based on partial and unofficial results, with 98.53% of election results already processed, Tulfo ranked third in the senatorial race with 23,166,304 votes as of 8:17 a.m. on Thursday.

Tulfo said he considered placing third as a bonus as he was only eyeing getting in the Magic 12 despite being the top choice in pre-election surveys.

Meanwhile, senatorial hopeful Loren Legarda said Friday that she is willing to help colleagues Senate topnotchers Robin Padilla and Raffy Tulfo navigate their first excursion into the legislative branch whenever they are formally declared.

“Napangako ko na po sa kanila (I already made a promise to them),” she said.

Legarda recalled a recent phone contact with Padilla in which he congratulated her on her alleged triumph and thanked her for her Senate insights throughout the campaign.

“Because during campaign I often tell them the laws I’ve crafted and I assured him I would guide him and share what I know about the body of work and legislation to those who are new in the Senate,” Legarda said.
