Quinta leaves 16 people dead; P700-M damage

Typhoon Quinta left 16 people dead and P700-million worth of damage to agriculture and infrastructure nationwide, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Thursday.

The NDRRMC said on its situational report that Quinta’s damage to life and property reached P736 million. The areas greatly affected by the typhoon were Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol, and Western Visayas.

Quinta caused P4.894 million worth of damage in the Ilocos region and P8 million in Central Luzon, NDRRMC reported.

Meanwhile, Calabarzon suffered a P573.111 million damage in crops while P20 million worth of infrastructure need be rehabilitated.

Mimaropa has recorded P2.8 million worth of damage to infrastructure, while in Bicol, P92.2 million agricultural damage has been reported.

Quinta cause P35 million worth of damage to agriculture products in Western Visayas.

Residential homes partially damaged reached 27,213, while 2,315 were totally destroyed.

According to the NDRRMC, two died from Calabarzon, seven from Mimaropa, five from Bicol Region, and two from Western Visayas.

The NDRRMC also reported 22 injured persons, and four were still missing.

Some 57,742 families or 242,220 persons across the regions of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas were either displaced or left homeless by the typhoon Quinta.

Typhoon Rolly enters after Quinta exited PAR

Meanwhile, Typhoon Rolly enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility and would likely hit the Central Luzon-Quezon area, Pagasa said on its severe weather bulletin issued Thursday night.

At 10:00 PM last night, the eye of Typhoon Rolly was located based on all available data at 1,280 km East of Central Luzon.

It is moving Westward at 20 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 150 km/h.

Typhoon Rolly is forecast to move west-southwestward or southwestward tomorrow until Saturday evening. Afterward, the typhoon will turn more west-northwestward as it moves over the sea off the Bicol Region coast towards the eastern coast of the Central Luzon-Quezon area. The center ofRolly’se eye is likely to make landfall over the Central Luzon-Quezon area on Sunday evening or Monday morning on the forecast track.
