Priest dies of COVID-19 in Tagum City

The priest who died in Tagum City on Monday tested positive for coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

The 51-year-old priest is considered the first COVID-19 related death in the city. His test came out positive this Wednesday, two days after his death.

According to the report, the priest has no travel history but frequently traveled to Davao City since February.

Conducting contact tracing was difficult for the COVID-19 City Task Force because the priest suffered a stroke. Other people who had contact with the deceased priest were ordered to go under home quarantine.

According to the local government of Tagum, the priest already has pneumonia when he was hospitalized at Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum on April 21.

Tagum City Information Office OIC Louie Bryan said the priest became a suspected coronavirus case because of his pneumonia.

As a result, although the Inter-Agency Task Force of the national government has recommended that Davao del Norte be under the general community quarantine, the province will continue implementing the enhanced quarantine community until May 15.

According to the last Department of Health Region XI report, there are nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Davao del Norte. The new case is not yet included.

As of April 30, the Philippines has recorded 8,488 confirmed cases, 568 deaths, and 1,043 deliveries.

4 seafarers in Bacolod City tested positive in COVID-19 rapid antibody-based test

Four of the 28 seafarers that arrived in Bacolod City on Tuesday night have tested positive to the rapid antibody-based test on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to the city mayor.

During the press conference held by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, the mayor said the results of the rapid test could not fully confirm if the patient was infected, He said the seafarers would undergo several tests and one of which was the real-time – polymerase chain reaction (RT- PCR test).

Today, the four will undergo the swab test and RT-PCR test at Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo to determine if they are negative or positive for COVID-19.

Leonardia added that the four seafarers are asymptomatic and are currently isolated at Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School in Bacolod.
