Prices of chicken, pork increase in some markets

The prices of chicken and pork have risen in some markets in Metro Manila amid a series of increases in the price of petroleum products.

At Mega Q Mart in Quezon City, for example, the price of liempo hit P420 per kilo and kasim P340, P10 higher than its previous prices.

The chicken meat was also priced at additional P10, which is now at P200 for choice cuts.

According to the sellers, sales are sluggish now because it is difficult for buyers to catch up with the price of the goods.

So they hope the price of delivery will also go down if there is a rollback in oil.

“Sana nga bumaba. Makaka-afford ‘yong mga tao ‘pag bumaba. ‘Yong bumibili ng isang kilo, kalahati na lang,” said vendor Elizabeth Espino.

It has been 11 weeks in a row that the price of petroleum products has risen, but on Tuesday (March 22), oil companies are scheduled to implement a rollback-the first price cut in 2022.

According to the sellers, there is a lack of chicken supply coming to the market now, which is also possible due to the high price.

Prices of chicken pork increase in some markets

At the Galas Public Market in Manila, the price of pork increased by P20 per kilo.

From P300 per kilo, the meat is now P320, while the price of liempo is now at P380 per kilo.

The price of chicken was P190 per kilo.

According to the vendors in Galas, they get high on their suppliers in the north.

The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (Sinag) said that the effect of the rollback will not be felt on Tuesday and that the live weight price of chicken and pork will increase by P15 to P20.

Sinag Chairman Rosendo So explained that it is only now that the high production cost of corn farmers can be felt, which has been hit by the oil price hike.

As a result, the price of feeds will also increase, and the cost of chicken and pork raisers will also increase.
